Japan Impressions

Japan Impressions

Joshua Weitzel is a guitarist and shamisen player from Kassel, Germany, based in Kyoto, Japan. His work is based on exploration of dynamics and contrasting parameters such as stasis and progress, linear and spatial development, control and unexpectedness. He has worked with a number of internationally recognized artists, among them improvisers, composers, noise musicians, fine artists, filmmakers, dancers, poets and Jazz musicians and has performed on various occasions across Europe, Israel and Japan. From 2015-2016 Joshua organized the Chamäleon Concerts at Lolita Bar in Kassel, a monthly series for experimental music that is still ongoing.

He has played with musicians such as Eddie Prévost, Klaus Bru, Matthias Schubert, Martin Speicher, Ross Lambert, Nicola Hein, Brad Henkel, Hada Benedito, Toshimaru Nakamura, Sam Andreae, London Improvisers Orchestra, Antoine Mermet, Rabito Arimoto, Maegaki Yuki and many more.
