The Solstice Quartet brings inspiration from the west coast jazz genre originating in the United States in the 1950s and 1960s. In contrast to the bebop and hard-bop styles of jazz, west-coast and cool jazz offer a more relaxed and laid back feeling with a lighter playing style and more melodic improvisation. This era of jazz also made odd-time signatures more popular with the introduction of popular tunes such as Paul Desmond’s Take Five and Dave Brubeck’s Blue Rondo a la Turk.

The Solstice Quartet 受美國1950 & 1960年代西岸爵士影響，樂風有別於鮑勃和硬式鮑勃爵士，西岸爵士和酷派爵士演奏的方式更為放鬆、悠閒，彈奏上較輕盈，也更注重旋律的發展。西岸爵士同時也帶動了基數拍音樂的普及，例如Paul Desmond的 Take Five，Dave Brubeck的Blue Rondo a la Turk等，都是耳熟能詳的曲目。
