We’re excited to announce Funky Teppenyaki is will perform at Sappho Live Jazz on Wednesday, March 5. Funky T. is a Shanghai-based DJ + live instrument project, mixing the beat of classic hip hop-infused funk with the thrill of live musicianship. It’s a block party come to live, with DJ BO and top musicians jamming live to create something new…but always funky. The first Taipei performance was in May 2017. Almost 8 years later, it’s back, with some returning cast members and some new ones.

DJ BO
DJ BO, “Shanghai’s #2 DJ,” is the co-founder of Funky Teppenyaki. He’s performed at many notable jazz clubs, including The Blue Note Shanghai, JZ Club (Shanghai), Jazz at Lincoln Center (Shanghai), and Xiù Jazz Club (Changsha). Through Funky Teppenyaki, he’s performed with many top jazz musicians in the region, including Alec Haavik and the dearly departed Mario Trane.

The Infrasound Horns
The Horn Section of The Infrasounds brings the classic funk and soul vibe to life with their powerhouse sound. Blending tight, dynamic brass with infectious rhythms, they create an unforgettable energy that fuels any party atmosphere. Featuring: John Herbison (Trumpet), Andy Francis (Trombone), and Macgregor Ian Wooley (Sax).

Special Guest…
Jiijah (Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia)
Jiijah brings a soulful reggae vibe infused with his Mongolian spirit. This will be the first performance on the first tour of a Mongolian reggae artist ever in Taiwan. Releasing music since 2010, he is just off his first performance in Japan and the release of his debut 10” record, Roots By Jiijah. Don’t miss this historic performance!
