Jenny Ing

Born in Victoria BC, Canada in 1990, Jennifer Ing was raised a Disney Princess.  Singing “Part of Your World” at the top of her lungs by the age of 3, Jennifer was lucky enough to be raised in a caring and passionately music-supportive home.

She started playing piano by age 4, saxophone by age 10, and picked up flute, oboe, clarinet, and tuba in the passing years at Victoria’s esteemed “Summer Band” program at Lansdowne Middle School.

In her teens, Jennifer studied with jazz heroes Brent Jarvis, Misha Piatigorksy and Gord Clements.  And performed in Big Bands with Canadian jazz royalty Neil Swainson, Phil Dwyer, Rob Cheramy, Don Thompson, Ian MacDougall and Brad Turner.  She spent summers teaching at the Victoria Conservatory of Music Jazz Workshop and St. Michael’s University School’s Jr. Jazz Workshop and spent the school year accompanying middle school and church choirs.

In 2012, Jennifer graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education.  Through her time there, she studied with Wendell Clanton (saxophone private tuition) and Toronto jazz star Patrick Boyle (jazz theory/jazz ensemble) and performed in the UVic Wind Symphony (bass clarinet) and UVic Jazz Orchestra (lead alto).

Her studies at UVic also led to the establishment of the Casual Sax Quartet, initially instated by Brad Justason, Jeff Poynter, Alex Richards and herself, printing and arranging their own versions of pop songs for classical saxophone quartet and performing them on the streets of downtown Victoria.

Upon graduating from University, Jennifer went on what she deemed a musical sabbatical in a 6-month adventure to Los Angeles, where she performed at American venues such as the Grand Star Jazz Club, the Onyx Lounge and the Aria Hotel in Las Vegas.  Collaborating with esteemed colleague, Chris Wabich and co-founding a production/recording/performing team labeled BichNg Productions, she started recording her first EP (Business & Pleasure, released June 2013!) and now looks forward to the completion of her next album (Just Another Album, 2014) and new playing opportunities all around the United States
