SCOTT COOK (& THE ANGLERS)
A roots balladeer with a rare personal warmth, Canada’s Scott Cook has managed to distil the stories collected over years of near-incessant touring across Canada, the USA, Europe, Asia, and Australia into straight-talking, keenly observant verse. Scott moved to Taiwan in 2000 and spent six years tangling with kindergarteners, playing roots and reggae with The Anglers and The Smoking Cones, and co-organizing the Peacefest, before trading it all in for the life of a full-time musical hobo in 2007. Today, he’s one of the hardest-working troubadours on the road, averaging 160 shows and a dozen festivals each year, and independently releasing five CDs of original songs along the way. His fifth album, One More Time Around, was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award, and its opening track “Pass It Along” won the Folk and Acoustic category in the 2013 UK Songwriting Contest, with UK magazine Maverick Country naming him “one of Canada’s most inspiring and imaginative storytellers”. He’s currently on another around-the-world in support of his fifth album, Go Long. All the hard miles notwithstanding, he still believes that songs can change your life, and your life can change the world.
For selected dates on this tour, Scott will be joined by his old band the Anglers (Tyler Dakin, Andy Francis, Hanro Van Wyk and Thomas Squires) with songs from their catalogue of original roots and reggae. Bring your dancing shoes!
Mojo & Sons
Bring your spoons and dancing shoes! A sweet mix of foot-tapping folk, gospel, bluegrass and blues songs — sung in numerous tongues and on a multitude of instruments — are the plat du jour from Mojo & Sons, a trio comprised of an Anglo-Irishman, a Taiwanese-American and a French-Canadian. The trio performs traditional and modern tunes, covering everyone from Doc Watson, the Carter Family and Memphis Minnie to Elis Regina and Nirvana. Expect to clap along and hear sweet harmonies accompanied by a feast of sounds provided by harmonicas, six and 12-string acoustic guitars, banjos, accordions and kazoos, not to mention plenty of jokes about doilies and granny buttons.
Mojo & Sons
