The Great Game

The Great Game
Experience the very unusual
selection of originals between
modern European Jazz, Latin
Jazz, Afro Jazz and sparks
of Romanticism brought to
you by Canadian/Taiwanese
bassist Brandon Lin, Spanish/
Dominican drummer Jose
Garcia and German pianist
Falk Bonitz.
There’s no such thing as musical boundaries! Coming from
very different countries and cultural upbringings, the three
members of this extraordinary formation are conveying this
belief with all their creativity and most of all their joy of
performing.
The Great Game
It’s just a game – but a great one…
Can you imagine any child not busy with creating a fantasy world
full of wonderful, wild or even weird ideas? Playing, envisioning,
fantasizing and -most of all- creating are some of the most
elementary desires of humanity and we musicians have the gift, privilege, and even obligation to keep this energy alive inside of all
of us and let the inner child thrive.
Be the witness of young and
upcoming Taiwanese/Canadian jazz
talent Brandon Lin, exploring his
favorite instruments electric bass
and trombone. He is a distinguished
Berklee graduate but never forgot
that it’s not all about the theory:
seeing his playful yet intense
approach to music will let you
glimpse into the power of creativity.
He has worked with a number of remarkable formations from Ralph Peterson’s ‘GenNext Big Band’ to Taiwanese artist Jerri Li, and has
performed at outstanding venues such as the Kennedy Center and DC Jazz Festival amongst others.
Also don’t miss the chance
to listen to our other Berklee
graduate Jose Garcia from
Galicia/Spain. His playing varies
somewhere between a young
boy discovering all his new toys
and sensing the finest moods
and highly energetic moments;
you will see how much true joy can emerge from all the playful and delicate grooves… He has won several awards in the European
music scene, Torino Film Festival, and was awarded best drummer
at the 2013 Orlando Band Competition. He has worked with artists
like Jorge Pardo, Claudio Gabis, Ron Korb, and is the co-founder of
‘Sonus de Gaia’, an internationally active Taiwanese world music
band which was nominated for the 2021 Golden Melody Award.
The pianist and composer Falk
Bonitz who studied classical piano in Germany never forgot his roots in European music, but his fascination
for Jazz, Afro and Latin music has
long taken over with a longing for true creativity. See him mingle
boundlessly all kinds of styles:
using his experience in theater, art
performances and classical music to create an unique soundscape on the piano. He has been touring more than 20 countries with his own jazz trio
as well as artists like Rachelle Jeanty (Backgr. of Celine Dion), Yuval Ron and Keith Tynes, performing
on international festivals such as Montevideo Jazz Festival and
Alanya Jazz Days. His music has been published in Magazines, TV
and Radio in Germany, Europe and Japan.
Playing music can be a hilarious game, but by no means should it
be taken on carelessly.
The Great Game will play until their last breath and take you
on a journey to experience honest creativity and determined
performance.
